Passerby thwarts beach robber

The mugger had threatened the woman and her friend and then grabbed the bag when they refused to give him money.

Her friend struggled with the suspect and he ran off along a path to the beach parking lot.

But as the mugger fled the bag was knocked from his hand by someone who had heard the couple shouting.

The suspect, who is described as six feet tall and dark-skinned, sped off on a motorcycle.

In a separate incident, a thief swiped a rucksack from the basket of a female livery cycle rider after riding behind her along South Road near John Smith's Bay on Saturday morning.

The suspect headed off to the Devil's Hole area with the rucksack which contained a purse, cash, a leather organiser and credit cards. And a woman had a briefcase taken from her in a similar robbery on Harrington Sound Road on Saturday.

A man rode up beside her and grabbed the bag which was attached to a bungee cord which snapped.

The suspect rode off with the bag which contained a wallet, bank cards and a cellphone.

MAN ARRESTED IN CITY CRM Man arrested in City A visitor had her bag grabbed as she walked along Bermudiana Road, Pembroke, at 1.40 a.m. on Saturday.

The suspect fled down an alleyway to Par-la-Ville Road but was later caught by Police.

James Verelas, of Faye Lane, Wantagh, New York pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court on Thursday to the charge of possession of cocaine on October 12.

Crown counsel Veronica Daley said Veleras arrived in Bermuda on October 11 on the cruise ship Zenith .

On October 12 he was searched and a brown vial containing .25 grams of white powder was found in the left front pocket of his jeans.

Also, a purple paper containing .66 grams of white powder was found in his right front pocket. Analysis showed this substance to be cocaine.

Veleras apologised and said he would make a decision to stop use of all drugs.

Magistrate Edward King fined him $300.

THIEVES RAID FRIDGE CRM Thieves raid fridge Police reported three burglaries over the weekend.

Cheeky thieves raided the fridge at a Warwick address on Saturday morning.

They took food and beer as well as the VCR, a watch and cash.

A Warwick woman awoke to find a stranger in her bedroom at 3 a.m. on Sunday morning.

He fled the Ord Road address with her wallet after she shouted at him.

A thief snuck in while a visiting couple slept at their Southampton guest house and stole cash and a wristwatch on Saturday.

BURGLAR STEALS CAR CRM Burglar steals car A Warwick man had his car stolen from outside his Rock Valley home overnight on Saturday.

Police believe the thief had broken into the house and swiped the keys before driving off in the brown Opel Tigra which was later found by Police.

CASH STOLEN CRM Cash stolen A Church Dale, Smith's Parish woman reported that a thief broke into her residence sometime between 8.30 a.m. and 5.30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Police said the culprit searched through drawers and removed an undisclosed amount of cash and loose change.
