Nahki Wells scored his second winner in four days for Huddersfield Town yesterday.

The Bermuda striker’s 85th-minute header gave the Terriers a 1-0 win over Burton Albion at the Pirelli Stadium to further reignite their Sky Bet Championship promotion push.

Wells struck his fifth goal of the season with a close-range header late on from a set piece to help his side to back-to-back victories after five games without a win.

The 26-year-old went close to adding a second moments later when his left-footed shot was saved by Jon McLaughlin, the Burton goalkeeper.

In a first half of few chances, Damien McCrory and Jamie Ward fired over for the home side, while Wells blazed a free kick over.

Wells then turned match-winner, heading in Christopher Schindler’s knock-back from Aaron Mooy’s free kick.

Burton managed only two shots on target and, after going close before the break, Ward curled a shot over the bar in the second half.

Huddersfield forward Elias Kachunga saw his goal-bound shot cleared off the line by McCrory as the visiting side looked the most likely to score.

But they had to wait until five minutes from the end of normal time as Australia midfielder Mooy’s long free kick was headed back in the box by Schindler and nodded in by Wells.

David Wagner, the Huddersfield head coach, heaped praise upon his team’s match-winner.

“To work so hard and score the winning goal so late, the emotions overcome everybody,” Wagner said. “Nahki worked so hard today.

“We spoke about the importance of set pieces tonight and tonight, one of ours decided the game. We showed concentration.

“They made it very tight, but we did everything we had to do to be successful here. They did it fantastically.

“I’m very proud that the lads dealt with the circumstances tonight. We knew it could be an ugly game and it was.”

Wagner added: “This is a difficult place to come and we showed a great fighting attitude when we needed it.

“Now we have to get our recovery right. We’re travelling a long way this week. We’re confident for the Norwich game.”

Huddersfield — who beat Bristol City 2-1 at home on Saturday, with Wells scoring the match-winning goal in the 58th minute — are now fourth in the table, seven points off an automatic promotion place.

They are away to eighth-placed Norwich City on Saturday.
