Alicia Sousa-Saints supported the decision of her son to leave his motorcycle racing team and branch out on his own in order to give other youngsters the opportunity he had coming up in the moto world.Cody Sousa-Saints and his father, Justin, recently left Team Tuned Motorcycling Racing team to create their own team that will compete in the Bermuda Moto Racing Club’s season.Sousa-Saints has won numerous awards in his short time in the sport, including the GP80 class, and mom Alicia is pleased with the decisions being made for her son who is grounded by his family’s support.“This year Cody and his father have chosen to leave the guidance of Team Tuned Motorcycle Racing to give a new younger rider an opportunity to become involved in motorcycle racing under the guidance of a team,” said Sousa-Saints. “They also wanted to have the racing be more of a father/son experience.“Cody has always been a very focused and grounded child.“Ever since he was little racing has been his life and all he has ever wanted to do.“As his parents, we just constantly remind him that if this is what he wants to do then he needs to make it his priority to do what it takes. Cody, having the determined personality that he does, seems to be able to do this with ease.“Also, constant praise and love help to create a winning mindset. It does really all come down to the rider and how much they want to be the best they can be and Cody certainly has big plans and goals for himself.“We are just there to support him in any way we can.”The youngster has been nominated the ‘Outstanding Teen Award in Sports’ by his head of year at Cedarbridge Academy, something that is remarkable given his short time in the sport.If you don’t know Sousa-Saints you would be surprised by his rise to fame on the local circuit, yet he already has a formidable CV.Included in his list of achievements are competing in the Red Bull Indianapolis GP last year with former teammate Bruce DeGrilla jr., while recently claiming two top five finishes in the CCS (Championship Cup Series), in Homestead, Florida where he rode a Suzuki GSX-R 1000 cc in the Expert Class for the first time.“Teen Services holds the Ceremony which is being held on March 19th at Hamilton Princess, and Cody was nominated by Mrs. Lowe, the S4 Year Level head at Cedarbridge Academy where he’s a senior.“As a parent, you always think your child is a star but to progress at the rate that he has, it is amazing.“For the few short years he’s been racing he has gone from riding an 80cc to a 125cc and now 1000cc., racing overseas securing two top five finishes in his rookie debut, something that is really amazing.”Sousa-Saints is certainly making an impact both at home and abroad. Following his impressive showing at the races in Florida, Henry DeGou, the Head of CCS Florida told him: “Those are some pretty amazing results coming from a rookie to the class. Keep up the good work.”And the rider himself is hoping to carry his impressive start to the year into the local season.“This should be an awesome season if I keep progressing at this rate,” said Sousa-Saints. “I would like to thank all of my sponsors and those who have supported me in my efforts to follow my dream. If it was not for you, I would not be able to live my dream.”
