Drink driver banned for 18 months
A 47-year-old man was fined and banned from the roads for 18 months today after he crashed his bike while nearly two times over the drink driving limit.
The court heard that Narasiman Chittibabu crashed his motorcycle on St John’s Road, near Pitts Bay Road, in the early hours of February 15.
Police called to the crash scene said Chittibabu speech was slurred, he was unsteady on his feet, and his eyes were bloodshot.
He admitted to officer that he had had a “few beers” at a friend’s house.
A later breath test showed 154 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood — the legal limit is 80/100.
Chittibabu, of Devonshire, pleaded guilty to the offence in Magistrates’ Court.
Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo also fined Chittibabu $1,200.
