Arrest made after high-speed crash
A motorcyclist was arrested at the weekend after a high-speed attempt to evade a police stop ended with a crash that left two people injured.
A police spokesman said the rider was spotted speeding on Front Street, Hamilton, just before midnight Friday with a woman passenger who was not wearing a helmet.
The 20-year-old man failed to stop when signalled and police later saw him drop the passenger off at Albuoy’s Point before he drove north on the one-way section of Par-la-Ville Road to the junction with Church Street, where he collided with another bike, ridden by a 54-year-old man. Police did not pursue the man up Par-la-Ville Road.
Both men were knocked out in the crash, but recovered consciousness before they were taken to hospital for treatment.
But the spokesman said their injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.
The 20-year-old man was later arrested on suspicion of riding under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
