Ascendant and Somers gain on BSX
Ascendant Group Ltd and Somers Ltd saw gains in their share prices in Bermuda Stock Exchange trading.
Ascendant, owner of power utility Belco, gained $1, or 11 per cent, to close on $10 as 8,000 shares changed hands. The trading action enabled it to recover fully from its $1 fall on Monday.
Somers, owner of stakes in financial-services companies and parent company of Bermuda Commercial Bank, rose 55 cents, or 3.9 per cent, to close on $14.80 as 300 shares traded.
Insurer BF&M Ltd was the one stock to fall, shedding 15 cents, or 0.9 per cent, to close the session on $16.85, as 300 of its shares traded.
Butterfield Bank shares were unchanged at $44.75, as 2,925 shares changed hands. Butterfield’s New York Stock Exchange-traded shares gained $1.15, or 2.6 per cent, to close on $45.89 amid a broad-based Wall Street rally.
The Royal Gazette/BSX Index gained 12.15 points, or 0.5 per cent, to close on 2,515.66. BSX trading volume was 11,525 shares, while turnover totalled $220,138.75.
The BSX Insurance Index climbed 0.28 of a point to close on 1,879.74.
