Paget man pleads guilty to drink-driving

A 39-year-old man was banned from the roads for 18 months today after he admitted drink-driving. Marquel Deshields, of Paget, pleaded guilty to impaired driving in Magistrates’ Court this morning.

Magistrates’ Court heard that Deshields was stopped by police on South Road, near St Michael’s Road, at about 10.15pm on March 17.

Police saw Deshields’ motorcycle swerve and almost collide with a wall.

Officers said his breath smelled of alcohol, his eyes were glazed, and he was unsteady of his feet. Deshields told officers: “I had a couple. I tried to ride straight.”

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo said police were unable to take breath samples from Deshields because of a problem with the testing equipment.

Mr Tokunbo fined Deshields $1,200 in addition to the ban.
