A man who rode a motorcycle without a helmet on Christmas Eve admitted he was more than two times over the legal alcohol limit at the time.Andre Mitchell pleaded guilty in Magistrates’ Court to impaired driving.He was arrested on December 24. A breath test found he had 176 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood in his system.The legal limit is 80 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood.On Thursday, Crown counsel Cindy Clarke said officers spotted a man on Front Street near the junction with Fagans Alley on Christmas Eve.He appeared unsteady on his feet and was walking towards a blue motorcycle.The man was then seen driving the vehicle onto Front Street without a helmet.Police approached the man and noticed his breath smelt of alcohol and he was displaying other signs of intoxication.He was arrested and taken to Hamilton Police Station for a breathalyser test.Mitchell told the court he rode after he was unable to find a friend to take him home.“First of all I came outside, went to my bike and sat there for a little while. After a little while had passed I was going to go back inside to give one of my friends keys to take me home.“He was nowhere to be found so I sat on my bike for a little while longer and left.”Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner fined him $1,000 and disqualified him from driving all vehicles for 12 months.
