Fraser leads way in Boston
Jamie Fraser led home a group of eight athletes from Bermuda in the Boston Marathon.
Fraser, 40, broke the three-hour barrier as he crossed the finish line in 2hr 57min 17sec, placing 1,095th overall. He maintained a steady pace of 6:46 per mile throughout the 26.2-mile race.
The second Bermudian-based runner home was Marie-Lyne Dore, 32, in 3:31.23, followed by Colm Homan in 3:42:14, and Mark Harris in 4:07:11.
The Boston Marathon, which was celebrating its 120th anniversary, was won by Ethiopia’s Lemi Berhanu Hayle in 2:12:45. First woman was Atsede Baysa, also of Ethiopia, in 2:29:19. There were about 30,000 entrants in the race, which was run in cool conditions.
The other finishers from Bermuda were Philip Martin in 4:38:06, Natalie Dyrli in 4:51:06, Karen Pritchard in 4:59:53 and Kimberly McIvor 5:05:55.
Former Bermuda resident Ronnie Wong, who now lives in Maryland, finished in 3:50:31, taking 54th place in the 65-69 age division.
Meanwhile, Clint Wells, a former Bermuda Marathon Weekend medal-winner, was the third American to finish yesterday. He was seventeenth overall in 2:24:55. The 40-year-old took bronze in the Bermuda Marathon Weekend 10K in 2007.
