Bargain-hunters descend on clearance sale

Lining up: bargain-hunters waiting to pay for items at the AS Cooper sale yesterday

Customers lined up along the street yesterday as AS Cooper & Sons held a clearance sale featuring discounts of up to 75 per cent.

The retailer staged the warehouse-style event away from its main Front Street stores, on the ground floor of the Cumberland House office building, at 1 Victoria Street, Hamilton. The sale continues today and tomorrow.

Discounted merchandise being sold includes plus-size ladies, men’s and children’s clothes, accessories, America’s Cup apparel, jewellery and items for the home.

Bargain-hunters descended on the site yesterday and although some people were complaining about the length of the lines, most were impressed with the sale prices.

Somers Cooper, chief executive officer of AS Cooper, was at the door to greet shoppers as they entered the building.

“We needed to clear the way for the new spring merchandise, so it seemed like a good idea to set up a pop-up experience to liquidate the rest of the fall inventory,” Mr Cooper said.

“It’s been an amazing response, the lines have been extremely long.”

The sale continues today, from 10am to 5pm and on Saturday, from 9am to 5pm.
