Abir hosts chat with top insurance regulator
Regulatory issues for the insurance industry will be the topic of conversation when the Association of Bermuda Insurers and Reinsurers hosts a virtual “seaside chat with Jonathan Dixon, secretary-general of the International Association of Insurance Supervisors.
Abir extends an invitation to the entire Bermuda re/insurance market to participate, along with the financial regulator the Bermuda Monetary Authority.
Albert Benchimol, chief executive officer of Axis Capital and chairman of Abir, said: “Abir is pleased to welcome secretary-general Dixon to Bermuda – virtually – to discuss the critical insurance regulatory and supervisory issues of the day.”

This one-hour, virtual conversation will be moderated by Mr Benchimol. The event is scheduled for October 20 at 2pm Bermuda time. Topics to be discussed include climate risk, ICS/ComFrame implementation, financial stability, pandemic impact, IAIS's Operational Resilience Taskforce, the IAIS Application Paper on Adapting to Emerging Risks, and the IAIS Issues Paper on Insurance Culture.
Mr Dixon has been secretary-general of the IAIS since November 2017. Before joining the IAIS, he was deputy executive officer at the Financial Services Board of South Africa with responsibility for insurance regulation and supervision. He was appointed to this position by the finance minister in 2008.
Before that he worked for ten years for the National Treasury of South Africa on economic and financial sector policy issues.
