Dear Sir,

After reading Mark Pettingill’s comments on whether the legal case of same-sex marriage should go back to court, it is very apparent that the legal costs would be quite prohibitive for many, many individuals.

So, why not consider crowdfunding?

Proposing crowdfunding clearly thinks outside the box to galvanise and secure financial strength for the legal case — crowdfunding not to earn a profit, but to secure a human right.

It now appears that this legal case is not only important to the LGBTQ community in Bermuda, but also has importance to the larger international LGBTI community.

So, perhaps, rather than just seeking out one or two wealthy individuals, why not seek to have the legal case crowdfunded on a global scale from the LBGTI community?

It is my understanding that there is a small but very active Bermudian group within the LGBTI community here in London, and that group could put Mr Pettingill in touch with the much larger LGBTI community in Britain and throughout Europe.

So, with its financial strength and organisational savvy internationally, the global rally could result in numbers and financial commitments from countries as far-flung as Australia, New Zealand, Brazil and South Africa, together with the much closer countries of Canada and the United States. It would create a very financially sustainable impact.
