Miranda, Williams win cross-country

Dion Breary took the women's masters title in Saturday's cross-country meet.

Jose Miranda and Tamika Williams won the open divisions of Saturday’s Bermuda National Athletics Association (BNAA) cross-country meet at the Arboretum.

Miranda clocked a time of 31 minutes, 16 seconds, followed by Gideon Kigotho (34:24) and Jashun Thomas (35:53).

Williams was timed in 20 minutes, 55 seconds — more than five minutes ahead of Beza Dagnachew (26:03). Charmaine Thomas (33:48) finished third.

However, masters runner Deon Breary beat all of the open division women as she crossed the line in 20.01.

In the men’s masters category, Tracy Wright (20:12) took the honours ahead of Darren Dowling (20:45) and Robert Thomas (23:02).

Breary was followed by Laurie Orchard (23:19) and Mairi Redmond (24:12) among the women’s masters

Kent Richardson (20:26) won the senior masters men category ahead of Mark Albuoy (23:55) and Sherman Darrell (25:58), while Zina Jones (24:36) beat Carol Griffith (27:28) and Wenda Roberts (29:02) to take the senior masters women’s prize.

Rachel Fox won the girls Under-20 race unopposed, while Daniel Oatley (18:11) beat Cameron Lee-Ming in the boys Under-17 division.

Aaron Jacobs clocked a time of 18 minutes, 56 minutes on his way to winning the boys Under-14 age group. Jayden Ming (19:19) and Malik Joell (20:11) were second and third respectively.

Mezziah Greaves ran to victory in the girls Under-14 division with a time of 22 minutes, 43 seconds. Finishing exactly one minute behind was Mikaela Outerbridge, and Rebecca Harrison (24:18) finished third.

Selah Tuzo (14:39) won the girls Under-12 race, ahead of Alexie Burrows (16:26) and Ice’ces Jackson (17:34), while Ryan Outerbridge (12:45) beat Iziah Tucker (13:17) and Robert Thomas (13:50) to the tape in the boys Under-12 race.

Jade Johnston (15:15) led the way in the girls Under-10 race, clocking 15:15 with Yasmyne Smith (15:30) second and Tesyah Astwood (16:11) third.

The boys Under-10 age group race was won by Kahzi Sealey (14:04). Tari Tucker (14:35) was second and Isaiah Wilson (16:11) finished third.

• Ashley Berry helped her Duke cross-country team to a fifth-place finish at the ACC Individual Title in Kernersville, North Carolina over the weekend.

Berry finished in 82nd in a time of 22 minutes, 23.3 seconds, while fellow Blue Devil Juliet Bottorff won the individual title for the school.

Duke amassed 130 points with ACC rivals Florida State winning with 52 points.

The University of Virginia (65) were second followed by Syracuse (108) and Notre Dame (124).
