tournament at CedarBridge on Saturday produced some outstanding match-ups.

Nick Frost, competing in his first masters, won the tournament by defeating Cal Butterfield 21-8, 21-8.

He also triumphed over Kevin Lapsley 21-11, 21-10 and Myron Piper in the winner's bracket elimination 9-21, 21-9, 21-16.

In the final, Frost went on to comprehensively beat Piper 24-22, 21-6, 21-19.

To reach the final, Piper defeated Craig Trott 21-17, 21-19 and then got past defending champion Dave Waltham 11-21, 21-16 and 21-10.

After Frost knocked Piper into the losers bracket, Waltham beat Lapsley 21-13, 21-17 and then defeated Trott 21-18 and 21-10 for the right to meet Piper again with the winner gaining the right to meet Frost in the final. Piper won 21-17, 21-15.

In Bank of Butterfield league play last Thursday, leaders Old Colony Club swept both of their make-up games against Police by convincing 11-0 margins.

Frost, Waltham and Chris Fleming each won three games.

OCC now hold a commanding six point lead over second-placed BPSA and with the title race effectively over, attention turns to the British American Insurance Company round robin tournament at CedarBridge on March 24, when the top 10 individual players in the league will do battle.

The first nine positions are practically decided while Kevin Lapsley of Eastern Stars (15-12), Cal Butterfield of Prison Officers (12-12) and Peter DeFreitas of Police (9-12) will be jostling for the tenth and final place and the two alternate spots.

The semi-finals of the Challenge Cup are slated for March 16 when champions OCC host Eastern Stars and BPSA entertain Prison Officers (7.30 p.m.).

Also scheduled for next month is the Bermuda Open on March 31 for which organisers are hoping to attract a major company sponsor.
