BSX caps 14.5% gain for year

The Royal Gazette/BSX Index closed the trading year with a 14.5 per cent gain.
Butterfield Bank was the main driver of the year’s rally, as its share price rose 19.8 per cent in 2017 to close on $37 — above the $36.29 closing price of its New York Stock Exchange-listed shares.
The index closed today at 2,202.19, down 2 points for the day, and up 278.4 points from where it ended 2016.
Argus Group fell 10 cents, or 2.5 per cent today, to close on $3.85 as 2,200 shares changed hands.
The most actively traded stock was One Communications Ltd. The telecoms firm closed unchanged on $3 on the trading of 9,400 shares.
The BSX Insurance Index rose 1.44 points to close on 1,829.93, to cap a 3.3 per cent rise for 2017.
