Death of baby Cassidy: May 17 trial
Soft spoken Karim Shadeed Salahuddin will stand trial on May 17 for the murder of his six-month old daughter, Cassidy ? just over a week after the first anniversary of the death.
Salahuddin, of Serpentine Road, denies killing Cassidy on May 6, 2003. Acting Chief Justice Norma Wade Miller set down the trial during yesterday?s Supreme Court arraignments session.
Mrs. Justice Wade Miller entered two not guilty pleas for 23-year-old Orlando Lee Burch who is charged with causing the death of 15-year-old Oshea Stowe by impaired driving with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood on June 29 on Ord Road, Warwick.
When Burch pleaded not guilty to an alternate charge of causing death by reckless driving, a loud huff and sucking of teeth sounds erupted from the gallery.
Mrs. Justice Wade Miller allowed the outburst to stand. Burch, of Smith?s Avenue, Warwick, is to return to court for mention on April 1.
The man accused of dousing his apartment in gasoline and barricading himself into the Bermuda Housing Corporation owned property formally pleaded not guilty to three charges related to the September 15 incident.
Caesar Taze Grahame denied placing gasoline ? called an explosive substance ? several lighted candles, a cigarette lighter and a gasoline soaked towel about the #22 North Shore Road, Devonshire apartment, intending to destroy or damage the property.
Grahame also denied trespassing in the apartment and causing more than $60 of damage. He is to re-appear on April 1, for a trial date to be set.
And the 37-year-old homeless man who tried to get two bank tellers to give him more than one million dollars in the name of politician Michael H. Dunkley will be sentenced on February 23.
Maxwell Sinclair Roberts pleaded guilty to ten counts of obtaining money by false pretences, forging a driver?s licence, uttering the licence, providing false information to obtain the licence and attempting to obtain money by false pretences on November 24.
Roberts got two bank drafts worth $79,783.49 from a Capital G bank teller, payable to Michael H. Dunkley ? the same name as the deputy leader of the United Bermuda Party and owner of Dunkley?s Dairy.
Roberts then got a Bank of Butterfield teller and a Capital G teller to cash the cheques. He was apparently caught as he tried to get $1,205,866.21 from another Bank of Butterfield teller.
Shrika Ra-Wanda Minors pleaded ?not guilty to all counts? of 32 counts of concealing and transferring the proceeds of criminal conduct under the Proceeds of Crime Act 1997.
Minors pre-empted the reading out of all the 32 counts after entering her first plea of not guilty to concealing $5,039.05.
Lawyer Craig Attridge told Mrs. Justice Wade Miller that Minors ?is willing to waive her right? to have all the charges read. Minors? age and address are not known.
A teenager was arraigned on one count of having unlawful carnal knowledge with a girl under the age of 14 while another man was charged with serious sexual assault. Neither man can be named for legal reasons.
