The new seven-storey apartment block planned for Dundonald Street will help further revitalise Hamilton as a place to live, the developers behind the site say.
Gilbert Lopes has been given approval to build 17 one- and two-bedroom apartments, which will have balconies and a roof terrace.
Simon Hodgson of Mr. Lopes' architects sky said: “It is going to bring in additional residential population to Hamilton and hopefully it will act as a catalyst.
“These things are always good for a city because they bring in certain utilities such as corner shops and laundromats which make the city more interesting.”

A 22-year-old Pembroke man is recovering in hospital after being stabbed in the neck early yesterday outside Spinning Wheel night club in Court Street.
Police rushed to the scene at 12.40 a.m. and found him bleeding from his wound. He was taken to hospital where his conditions is said to be satisfactory on a general ward.

A bike ride was a jaw-dropping experience for one senior last week when he managed to lose his dentures.
The pink lower plate fell out of his unzipped jacket pocket as he rode near the Royal Hamilton Amateur Dinghy Club on Harbour Road last Wednesday.
An advert in the classifieds and several visits to the scene have failed to locate the missing denture plate.
Asked why the plate had been taken out, the man, who wished to remain anonymous, said: “Normally when I travel I take it out in case I have an accident. I don't want to choke on it.”
Now he fears it will never turn up.
He said: “I have had it quite a while. It didn't come back the following morning. I thought a jogger would have found it.”
A man who appeared in Magistrates' Court on Monday pleaded not guilty to unlawfully assaulting a woman.
Percy Louis Smith Sr., 56, of Sunset View Road, Pembroke, denied the charge, which is alleged to have occurred on September 14, 1999.
Acting Senior Magistrate Carlisle Greaves released Smith on $500 bail and set a trial date for May 15.
Beach It burgled
A thief broke into the Beach It concession stand on Coot Pond Road, St. George's and stole liquor sometime between Tuesday afternoon and yesterday morning.
