A kitchen cabinet in a studio apartment caught fire on Sunday morning causing $300 damage.Fire Service spokesman Lt. Dana Lovell said four vehicles and ten fire fighters went to the apartment on Payne Lane West in St. George?s.The occupant of the home was playing video games with his son when he heard popping noises coming from the kitchen. He went to investigate and noticed the small blaze coming from the cupboard under the sink. When fire fighters arrived there was no visible signs of the fire. No one was injured and the cause of the fire is undetermined.

Firemen probe kitchen blaze

Man falls from truck

A Saturday night traffic accident left one of the victims lying injured in the road after he fell from the back of a truck.

At around 9.10 p.m. Police attended the collision on North Shore Road in Hamilton Parish near the junction with Cottage Hill Road.

It appears that the victim was in the back of a heavy truck and fell from the vehicle as it rounded a bend in the road. As a result he sustained serious facial injuries and was taken to the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment. Currently he is in the Intensive Care Unit in stable condition.

Car overturns in crash

A car overturned in an accident in St. George?s on Friday afternoon. The driver declined medical treatment.

At 5 p.m. on Friday Police attended the single vehicle collision on Coot Pond Road. On arrival officers spoke with the driver of the vehicle who was sitting nearby. He was then arrested for being in ?care and control of a vehicle while impaired? and taken to the Hamilton Police station and detained.

Seatbelt fines mount

Government has made at least $10,000 on fines from seat belt violations in the last three months. A Police spokesman said that around 200 tickets had been issued to motorists since June for not wearing a seatbelt in a vehicle.

Those who plead guilty to violating the seatbelt requirement will be subject to a $50 fine, while those who plead not guilty and are subsequently found guilty in court will have to shell out up to $200. The amendment to the Motor Car Act was passed on June 2.

Fishing rods stolen

Four fishing rods and a red ice cooler was stolen from a boat docked at Marginal Wharf, St. George?s. The owner of the boat told Police that between 2 p.m. on Wednesday and early on Thursday, a thief slipped onto his boat and stole the four gold coloured rods and cooler. And $300 was stolen from a Serpentine Road, Pembroke home on Thursday morning.

The victims told Police that some time between 10.30 a.m. and 12 p.m. that day, an unknown culprit broke into their home and took US$300 in cash.
