The West Indian Association’s Give From the Heart telethon for hurricane-ravaged regions in the Caribbean enjoyed a successful evening as the community came together to help our neighbours to the south.

The phone lines were ringing off the hook during the Caribbean hurricane relief campaign, organised by the association after the region was devastated by hurricanes Irma and Maria last month.

On Facebook today, the group said it had reached its goal of $100,000 on the night.

The event at Berkeley Institute was broadcast live on ZFB TV and radio station Power 95FM as well as being live streamed on Facebook.

A variety of talent took to the stage with hosts Gary Moreno and Patrina Paynter. Bermuda Broadcasting donated its airtime for free while its staff worked on an unpaid voluntary basis.

The WIA will also host a family fun day on Sunday, November 5, and its annual Christmas Round De Caribbean fundraiser on December 9.
