A pair of Royal Air Force aircraft stopped off in Bermuda as they headed to the Caribbean to help countries devastated by Hurricane Irma.

Bermuda Skyport scrapped all normal fees for the flights - one of which took Royal Bermuda Regiment troops to the Caribbean.

Skyport president Aaron Adderley said it was “the least we can do”.

Mr Adderley said: “Bermuda Skyport is happy that we are in a position to assist the Royal Air Force and the Bermuda Regiment in their mission to help the islands devastated by Hurricane Irma.

“I know so many want to help our sister islands. It’s the least we can do and I wish we could do more.”

The first aircraft arrived last Thursday night and flew to the Caribbean on Friday loaded with supplies, cargo and crew to provide humanitarian relief.

Royal Bermuda Regiment troops were also on-board as part of their relief mission and the C130 Hercules aircraft flew back and forth between the Caribbean and Bermuda over the weekend.

The second aircraft, an A400 Atlas, also arrived from Newfoundland on Friday carrying supplies for those island nations affected by Hurricane Irma.

Both aircraft refuelled at LF Wade International Airport.
