Christian reading room to reopen

The Christian Science Society’s reading room will reopen its doors on Tuesday for the first time in more than a year.

The room was formerly located in the society’s church edifice on Cedar Avenue but had to be closed when the building was demolished because of mould and damp issues.

“We have been holding services at Charities House Boardroom every Sunday at 11am, but have been unable to operate the Reading Room,” spokeswoman Martha Dismont said.

“We are delighted to be opening in our new location, and we believe the Bermuda community will appreciate this place of study, reflection, and hope.

“Our community needs a rainbow in the midst of seeming clouds, and we were compelled to find a place for this reopening in support of our community’s needs.”

The reading room at 6 Dundonald Street will be open from 2pm to 7pm on Tuesday.

The opening will include two brief lectures on Christian Science by Leide Lessa, Christian Science Practitioner, Teacher and Lecturer, of Boston MA.

The lectures will take place at 3.30pm and 5.30pm in the reading room.

Ms Dismont added: “A Christian Science Reading Room is both a bookstore and a quiet place for study and prayer, where everyone is welcome.

“You can read or buy the Bible and all the books by Mary Baker Eddy, the discoverer and founder of Christian Science.

“You can also read and listen to more than 100 years of articles, testimonies, and recordings that give first-hand accounts of physical and moral healing through prayer.“
