Tanker heads for Bermuda after wave kills captain and chief engineer
An oil tanker is expected to arrive on the Island on Monday after a wave killed both its captain and chief engineer and injured another crew member.The Greek-owned Aegean Angel was heading to Houston, Texas with a cargo of fuel oil when it was hit by the wave.The 47-year-old captain and 33-year-old chief mechanic were killed; while the 34-year-old deputy captain sustained severe head injuries.According to Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre, the tanker is expected to arrive near the Island on Monday morning so the injured crew member can get medical attention.New crew members will also be waiting to join the vessel so it can continue its voyage, said a centre spokesman.The vessel, which was carrying its cargo from Estonia to Texas, sailed into bad weather with force eight winds around 800 miles from Bermuda.A Police spokesman said it appeared the crew members had gone on deck to examine the vessel after a storm was thought to have affected the ship.All three men were violently thrown and seriously hurt.Another medical evacuation will be taking place this morning after a crew member onboard the ER Brighton sustained a serious cut to his arm during cargo securing operations in bad weather.
