Flights cancelled as storm hits US East Coast
Flights to and from Bermuda have been cancelled due to harsh winter weather in the United States.According to airport staff, Delta flights to and from Boston and Continental flights to and from Newark today have been cancelled.Storm activity also caused the cancellation of yesterday’s Delta flight to and from Atlanta.Blizzard conditions, with winds reaching 50mph (45 knots) combined with as much as two feet of snowfall have been predicted to batter areas of New England today.Other gateway destinations such as Philadelphia and New York could also be affected by the storm.At press time last night US Airways flight 1424 from Philadelphia and 1425 to Philadelphia were on schedule.However American Airlines flight 1378 from New York JFK, scheduled to arrive at 8.45pm, was cancelled, and JetBlue’s flights to and from JFK today appeared likely to be cancelled.Winter storms have caused thousands of flights to and from the East Coast to be cancelled since Christmas, leaving droves of holiday travellers stranded.All travellers are advised to contact their airlines and check their flights are operating as scheduled.lFor updated flight information, visit the LF Wade International Airport website at www.bermudaairport.com.
