Ariel Re donates $50,000 to Adult Education School

A Bermuda-based reinsurance company has donated $50,000 to help “Bermudians from all walks of life” get their GED diplomas.Ariel Re, which says it believes education is key to the success of local people and the Island itself, donated the cash to the Adult Education School (AES).The money will go to the school’s Opportunity Scholarships which give financial assistance to needy students in the math or english GED programmes. Many of the adult learners at AES are out of work and are having difficulty finding employment and all are looking for a second chance to improve their educational qualifications.Tom Hulst, Chief Executive Officer of Ariel Re, said: “Bermudians from all walks of life should have access to programmes that will teach them to read, write and improve their prospects for employment regardless of their age, race, religion or economic status.“That’s precisely what the Adult Education School offers and why we have decided to make this donation to further the school’s efforts.”He said the company’s charitable donations aimed to help those organisations working to improve social and economic conditions in Bermuda.“By supporting the AES, we are supporting Bermuda’s community and helping to provide educational opportunities to individuals who are seeking to improve themselves. This is a very worthy cause,” he added. For more than 50 years the AES has offered students a safe environment to address their academic, social and emotional needs. It provides educational programmes, literacy and support services to young and mature adult learners across the Island. For more information on the AES contact 292-5809.
