Strykz bowls over customers with new kitchen

Customers can now buy food on the premises at Strykz Bowling Lounge, in Southside, after the venue added a kitchen.

The venue serves a variety of fast food options, from pizza to hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken wings, french fries and salad. There is also a children’s menu.

The venue has enjoyed renewed popularity since being taken over by Philip Bailey Jr four years ago. And international recording star Maxi Priest also gave it the thumbs up when he visited in June to play bowls with friends.

Mr Bailey said the addition of a kitchen had been planned for a while. It took six months to install and it opened on Friday.

“There had never been a kitchen available, so it was always in our plans to renovate an existing area and transform it into a kitchen,” he said.

“Our customers repeatedly asked for a variety of food that they can have with their party or just to hang out and eat.”

Mr Bailey said there had been a good response to the new food service.

“Since Friday, people have been here and enjoying the food.”

The bowling lounge offers more bowling alleys. There are also tabletop games, two large projectors to show live sports, and a music system.

Mr Bailey said the centre caters from all age groups from four upwards. It has hosted birthday parties, corporate parties and other groups.

And in June, it got a visit from singer Maxi Priest, who was on the island.

“He was with some friends on the island and he wanted to do some bowling. So they decided to come here.

“There were about five of them and they came on a quiet night and they had a good time,” said Mr Bailey.

Strykz Bowling is on Southside Road, St David’s, opposite the former White’s Supermarket. The bowling alley had been closed for two years before it was renamed and reopened by Mr Bailey in 2013.

Mr Bailey thanked businesses and organisations that assisted Strykz, including BLDC, Belco, A2Z Fire Protection Services, PnM Electrics, 2Tech Technologies, Planning and Health departments, Bermuda Fire and Rescue Services, Steve Cristifoli, Doris Bailey, David and Beryl Furbert of Mr Chicken, Maclellan and Associates, the Strykz staff, family and friends.

The venue is open on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 4pm to 10pm, and on Fridays from 4pm until midnight. At weekends it opens at 2pm, closing at midnight on Saturdays, and 10pm on Sundays. The bowling lounge is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
