It's a good bet that centre-half Troy Durham won't want to be reminded today of what might be described as one of his most spectacular ever headed goals.

Unfortunately for Durham his stunning effort flew into his own goal just five minutes from the end of this First Division encounter to prevent Dandy Town from leaving PHC with maximum points.

Trailing 1-0 to a goal by Derron Simons after 55 minutes, Vasco pushed powerfully forward with time running out and their equaliser came after a build-up down the right flank.

Right back Sinclair Gibbons moved swiftly towards the penalty box and unleashed a piledriver which the diving Durham, attempting to turn outside the goal with his head, only managed to rocket into goal beyond the reach of diving goalkeeper Cymande Davis.

The contest was far from a classic, especially during the first half when defences dominated, yielding precious little to the opposing forwards.

Vasco's first chance came when centre-half Paul Towlson headed against the bar after 23 minutes and another followed when Davis brilliantly tipped Irving Burgess' shot over from close range.

Dandy Town had two good efforts also, with striker Carlos Smith lashing a fierce shot off the goal post from 16 yards after 33 minutes and then forcing Timmy Figuerido to push another effort from just inside the box over for a corner after 38 minutes.

Town got a boost early in the second half when the hard-working Smith provided the cross from the left that enabled Simons to score from close range.

And for a while they piled on the pressure to hint that more goals were in the making, but it wasn't to be.

With confidence restored in their game, Vasco were allowed to come back with momentum. After 69 minutes midfielder Kentoine Jennings sent a rocket straight at Davis' chest from 17 yards and two raids afterwards saw the Town defence scramble the ball away in desperation.

Then with time running out and Town apparently tasting victory, Durham's head let Vasco off the hook.
