Drink-driver fined and disqualified
A 29-year-old Sandys man has been taken off the roads for 18 months.
Appearing in Magistrates’ Court this morning, Cofield Robinson admitted driving over the legal blood-alcohol limit in Southampton on July 1.
The court heard that police officers stationed at the junction of Camp Road and Fork Lane saw a car turn right onto Camp Road, swerve and nearly hit a wall.
They stopped the vehicle and spoke to Robinson, who told them he had a flat front tire, which was causing him to swerve.
The officers checked and noticed a minor tear but the tire was not flat. As they spoke to Robinson, they noticed he appeared to be intoxicated and he told them he had “a few” drinks.
He was arrested and taken to Hamilton Police Station, where it was determined that he had 123 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood — the legal limit is 80mg.
In court today, Robinson asked to keep his van licence but was told by magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo that the offence attracts a mandatory disqualification.
Mr Tokunbo handed Robinson a $1,200 fine and banned him from driving all vehicles for 18 months.
