Man pleads not guilty to Woody’s assault
By Gareth FinighanA Smith’s man suffered a fractured skull and broken nose after being beaten outside Woody’s bar and restaurant, a Supreme Court jury has been told.Nathaniel Ingham, 30, was knocked unconscious in the attack, and later had to be airlifted to a US hospital for treatment.Yesterday, defendant Khyri Smith-Williams, 21, from Sandys, went on trial after pleading not guilty to the charge of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm in the December 6 attack.Testifying in court, Emergency Room doctor Angela Marini said that Mr Ingham was unconscious when he arrived at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital and put on life support before being transferred to the Intensive Care Unit. She noted that the victim had a 2cm-long wound at the back of his head, there were abrasions on his forehead and around his eyes and a CT scan “indicated inter-cranial bleeding”.“There was bleeding both in the brain tissue and inter-cranial bleeding, between the brain and the skull,” Dr Marini said. Asked by prosecutor Larissa Burgess what sort of force may have caused the injuries, Dr Marini replied: “A significant force because there was also a skull fracture.”When defence lawyer Marc Daniels asked if the blunt trauma injury could have been caused by an instrument such as a glass bottle, Dr Marini replied: “I suppose it is possible. It would have had to be swung with significant force.”The trial continues today.
