A Pennsylvania woman was fined in Magistrates’ Court this morning after she admitted possessing cannabis.

Florence Drapczynski, 68, of North Wales, pleaded guilty to charges of possessing the controlled drug and drug equipment — a pair of pipes.

Cindy Clarke, the deputy director of public prosecutions, told the court that at around 12.15am on June 12 customs officers and cruise ship security searched Drapczynski’s cabin after receiving reports of a strong scent of cannabis emanating from the room.

During the search, the officers found a small amount of plantlike material and a pipe on the bedside table. Asked about the material, Drapczynski said: “I’m not even going to lie any more. I have been smoking marijuana.”

A further search of the cabin revealed a second pipe along with a total of 3.91 grams of cannabis.

Appearing in court, Drapczynski admitted the offences, saying: “I wish to apologise to the courts for being so disrespectful and to the people of the island for being so disrespectful.”

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo fined Drapczynski $600 for the cannabis charge and a further $300 for possessing the pipes.
