Dogs tamed as Pot snap leaders? win streak

Robin Hood went top of the Commercial A Division at the weekend after pacesetters Tuff Dogs tumbled to Lobster Pot following five straight wins.

Pot played some of their best football this season in a hard fought 1-0 victory over a weakened Dogs team who were missing top scorer Jeff Franklin.

Pot dug deep as Dogs hit the crossbar with a close range Joe Carolo header on ten minutes and were unlucky not to get a penalty when Carolo was brought down in the box. Pot had a second-half goal disallowed for offside.

With 15 minutes remaining Dave Allison made amends for missing a previous one-on-one with the ?keeper by firing in the decisive goal from a Tommy Gribbons knock down after mounting pressure.

Meanwhile, Robin Hood set the scene for this Saturday?s pre-Christmas showdown with Dogs with a comfortable 3-0 win over BAA.

David Wolfe burst through the heart of the BAA defence and rounded the ?keeper after 20 minutes while half-time substitute Alan Mooney picked the ball up just inside the BAA half and went on a solo run past four defenders before notching the second with a low shot into the far corner.

Wanderers were awarded a penalty after Dan Miller hacked down a BAA striker but the spot kick went wide.

With 15 minutes remaining Hood striker Shane Brown, who had only been on the field five minutes, was dismissed for abusing referee Ralph Tumbridge. But two minutes from time Brian Fubler wrapped things up for Hood with a fine individual goal.

Draw specialists MR Onions shared the points in a 1-1 stalemate with Key West. Good early possession from Onions saw Gary Fyffe making plenty of room down the left and striker Colin Keane menacing Key West with his pace. Dave Turner scored Onions? goal after nine minutes with a neat turn on the edge of the box.

Key West turned up the heat with some good football but were kept out by stand-in keeper Jason Roberts. But Onions conceded possession on the edge of the box and Key West forward Wayne Augustus scored off the post in the 70th minute.

Two late goals from substitute Mark Ray and strikes from Kenny Burns and Arnold Todd helped Devonshire All-Stars overcome PHC 4-1 with the Zebras getting a consolation goal from Albert Thomas.

Last season?s runners-up North Village Rams easily beat St. George?s who are still without a single point. Ross Lamb netted two and Stevie Dickinson and Shannon Burchall one each for Rams while St. George?s replied with a Lionel Cann penalty.

Valley?s super season continued. After Tuff Dogs tumbled, the side which dumped First Division Paget Lions out of the cup are now the only team in the Commercial League with a 100 percent record after a comfortable 4-2 victory over Wolves, making it seven out of seven in the B division.

Wolves responded to two early goals from S.Smith in the first half with a Casey Burgess strike and equalised via Shannon Tuzo in the 81st minute only to crumble as M.Bourne and J.Tyrell restored Valley?s two-goal advantage.

A lacklustre Vasco Mariners lost ground in the promotion race after failing to capitalise against Prison Officers who began with seven men at Malabar.

After 22 minutes the now full strength home side netted through D.Richards on their first attack. Richards scored again ten minutes into the second half. Vasco substitute Bo Saggar blasted in off the underside of the bar to make it 2-1 while the theatrical Vasco side had numerous penalty claims turned down. With four minutes left, Prison Officers wrapped it up through D.Norford.

Dockyard Falcons capitalised on Vasco?s slip with a 4-3 win over lowly Prospect/Fire ? a victory clinched in the last minute. Falcons scored through Dwayne DeRosa and Sean Simons while Prospect were leading with 20 minutes to go through Paul Fenwick and two Dean Martin strikes but two goals by Gary Trott in the 81st and 90th minute sealed Falcons? victory.

Somerset Extros were left ruing wasteful first-half finishing against Devonshire Lions in a lively encounter at Somerset. Lions went ahead after three minutes through Roger Cox but a well-judged long range chip by Everett Wellman got Extros back in it before team-mate Michael Corday netted at the far post from a Troy (Starsky) Thompson cross just before the break.

Lions turned up the pressure in the second half with Anthony Amory scoring with a well taken header from a corner and a strike from outside the box late on.

Pest Control brushed aside Somerset Bridge with two goals from Earnest Spence and goals from George Braithwaite and Henry Young. Eagles got a consolation goal with two minutes remaining from Warren Iris.
