Shares of Butterfield Bank lost $1.50, or 4.6 per cent, to close at $31 after 1,200 traded on The Royal Gazette/BSX Index.

The bank’s shares were 18 cents, or 0.54 per cent, lower at $32.98 on the New York Stock Exchange.

Meanwhile, on the local exchange, Somers Limited also dropped, losing 50 cents, or 3.8 per cent, to finish at $12.50 after 100 share were exchanged.

There was also trading in BF&M and Ascendant Group shares, but with no change to their closing price.

The Royal Gazette/BSX Index was down 70.76 points, or 3.55 per cent, at 1,921.1.

The BSX Insurance Index improved 18.57 points, or .98 per cent, to 1,907.68.
