Harrington Sound Primary School is to close for two days for maintenance due to an infestation of bird mites.
Freddie Evans, the Commissioner of Education, said the problem had been caused by birds nesting in the roof.
The school is to remain shut on Monday and Tuesday.
“While the mites are not harmful to humans, we wish to safeguard the health of students and staff as the mites could potentially trigger allergies or asthma,” Dr Evans said.
“The school will be closed while the pests are eradicated and general maintenance is carried out.”
A spokesman for the department apologised for any inconvenience, saying the school would reopen on Wednesday.
