Veronica's an expert in her field
Veronica Darrell Fubler is just that. Starting in the Washington Mall, and remaining there since, Veronica's is still selling ladies and children's shoes.
"We cater to working-class customers'' says Veronica "and they appreciate our reasonable prices, I know that.'' But shoes are not their only speciality. Wedding parties and high school proms are also part of the business because Veronica's will dye and stain satin shoes, always a big demand for such occasions.
And to keep things in the family, Veronica's mom -- Mrs. Loris Neverson -- is there in the shop to help out and give advice. With assistant Verna Smith also working there, the shop is able to be open six days a week.
Veronica herself had started in the shoe business straight from school, working in a shoe shop in town for five years before deciding that she knew enough about the business to launch into the trade herself.
"I buy my shoes at a big international show in August. But our speciality is Spanish footwear, and for that I go to Miami.'' If that were not international enough, Veronica also sells Brazilian Westie shoes.
Planning ahead is vital and Veronica has already ordered her stock for spring and summer of 1993. Guessing what the fashions might be this time next year is an acquired skill -- that's where twenty years in the trade comes in useful.
