John and Judy take voyage of a lifetime
When Judy and John Scotland of Sound View Road, Somerset let their wide circle of family and friends know they were welcome to join them on the fabulous Mediterranean cruise they were having to jointly celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary and John’s 65th birthday, ONLY 80 decided they would go along.They flew from Bermuda to Barcelona, Spain boarded the Royal Caribbean’s mega liner Brilliance of the Seas and for the next 12 days they enjoyed the cruise of a lifetime, smooth and most exciting visiting other ports in Spain, Greece, Egypt and Malta.“It couldn’t have been better,” Judy said with a broad smile of satisfaction.And on reflection she and her husband and fellow travellers breathed sighs of relief realising that the “rilliance of the Seas on its very next cruise a week later, ran into a violent storm and was seen in dramatic television news pictures nose-diving into the Mediterranean with huge waves badly damaging its high superstructure.John and Judy were married at St. John’s Anglican Church, Pembroke November 23, 1970. Her sister Sandra Bean, who was her maid-of-honour, and bridesmaid Dianne Trott joined in on the big cruise. While all of the other Bermudians returned home at the end of the cruise, John and Judy took a landlubbers side trip touring for several days in Lisbon and London enroute to Bermuda.John Scotland retired after 40 years working as one of the Bermuda Telephone Company’s highly skilled technicians. He is now on staff at Quantum Communications. His wife also retired after working for decades at Telco’s Somerset Exchange. She spends much of her time now catering to her two grandchildren Kyon and Kemayala. Their mother Makela Scotland Place is the only child of the Scotland’s marriage. She is married to Kaven Place.
