*** The Reach to Recovery organisation, an early support group for women who have concerns about breast cancer, will have a new co-ordinator as of June 30. Mary Coleman currently assistant co-ordinator will replace Sharon McMahon who is returning to Canada to live.
The organisation has 21 trained volunteers who are available to visit, on a one to one basis, any women who may be in the early stages of a breast cancer diagnosis.
All of the volunteers are survivors of breast cancer themselves. The women offer emotional support and provide several booklets which help answer the many questions which arise. All visits are strictly confidential.
"It means so much to talk to someone who has already been there. I remember when I first had my surgery in the US a Reach to Recovery volunteer made contact with me and it made the world of difference to me.
"We have already helped several women now that reach to Recovery is available here in Bermuda and that's what it's all about,'' Mrs. Coleman said. To contact the Reach to Recovery organisation call 296-5517 and leave your name and a contact number. All calls answered within 24 hours.
