Barbecue sauce versus ketchup
If you’re using that store-bought sauce and store bought ketchup (I don’t know anyone who makes their own ketchup), they’re pretty evenly matched as bad.KEMH Clinical Dietitian Hannah Simpson said while ketchup tends to have more salt (sodium) than BBQ sauce, BBQ sauce tends to be higher in sugar. “They’re both really bad and should never be given to children,” she said.Health coach Preston Ephraim II agreed and suggested that organic versions of the two products be used for those who feel the two condiments are a necessity.Ms Simpson however disagreed. “Organic just means no pesticides were used on the ingredients,” she said.US based online dietitians put BBQ sauce as the loser. They said the nutrient lycopene found in tomatoes, makes ketchup slightly better than BBQ sauce.Lycopene offers the body some protection against cancer.Ms Simpson found that hard to swallow and noted that in her native England many young children loose all their teeth from having too much ketchup in their diets.“They might as well have candy bars,” she said. “The ketchup is also sticky so it sticks to their teeth. People should use salsa instead.”
