Books bring Christmas cheer

Dr. Sandy De Silva, Clinical Psychologist, Director of Clinical Services for the Family Centre, receives a donation of one case lot of 78 books, entitled the Banana Leaf Faerie Elf from Bermuda, from the dainty Banana Faerie, four year-old Amiyah Lake. The books, featuring Ronnie Chameau and her banana leaf angels, were donated by the book's author, Joan K. Aspinall, especially for the children's Christmas party.

When Santa gave out his gifts to the 93 families connected to the Family Centre during their Christmas Party held at the Aquarium last month, he had an extra boost from the Banana Leaf Faeries.A popular book on the local market entitled the “Banana Leaf Faerie Elf from Bermuda”, written by Joan K Aspinall and donated by the author, graced every holiday packet.“It was such a lovely Bermuda treasure to give to our families during our Holiday Christmas party,” said clinical psycholigist, Dr Sandy DeSilva. “Some families had tears in their eyes when receiving the books.”“When Ms Aspinall contacted me about making a donation, I became very excited. I told her that it was my daughter’s favourite book and that she carried it around all the time in the car.“We hope to bring Ms Aspinall back in the future to do readings of her books to the children and have them personally meet the Banana Leaf Faerie, Amiyah.”Family Centre is an internationally accredited Bermuda charity that provides family based intervention services to support children experiencing family crises and suffering from emotional and behavioural challenges.
