Pastor Leon Herbert and wife, Rosalind, affectionately known as ‘Peggy’. They would have been married for exactly 52 years today. Children of the marriage are Terry Lynn, Pastor Terence and Karen.

One week after celebrating his 82nd birthday, the life of the Rev Leon Granville Herbert came to an end.He was the builder and pastor emeritus of the First Church of God on Sound View Road, Somerset. And that is where his only son, the Rev Terrence L Herbert, carries on his legacy as Associate Pastor. On Sunday last, Rev Leon was eulogised as a humble, faithful, and righteous praying man of faith. Several hundred attended the service celebrating his life at the First Church of God, North Shore, Pembroke. Officiating was the head of local Churches of God, Bishop Vernon G Lambe, assisted by Rev Deborah R Evans and young pastor Herbert, the pastors of the Somerset Church.Leon Granville Herbert was born on May 17, 1930, the fourth child and second son of the 12 children of James Leon and Amelia Herbert of Pond Hill, Pembroke. He was a carpenter by trade. On this very day, June 9, 2012, he and his wife, the former Rosalind (Peggy) Simmons of Somerset, would have been married 52 years. In fact, they were the first couple to have been married at the Sound View church, which both had been instrumental in building. The couple had a passion for winning souls and for ministry. Together they travelled widely, as Rev Herbert preached to congregations in Bermuda and abroad. They visited the sick and shut-in, hospitals, rest homes and private homes, “touching and inspiring many, providing them with hope and a spiritual foundation”.

The Herbert clan as they joined at the Sound View, Somerset church, paying tribute in song, prayer and praise for Rev. Leon on the eve of his homegoing service the next day at the North Shore, Pembroke Church.
