Sharon unveils golf apparel goodies with Bermuda theme

This photo of Win McMurry, of The Golf Channel, was taken at the Fairmont Southampton's resort beach last week. She is seen here modelling golf fashion line Birdy & Grace's new 2013 trends.

When the founder of a golf fashion line was scouting for the perfect location for her new shoot — it was none other than the gorgeous greens of Bermuda.Sharon Sunoo, who launched sporty clothing line Birdy & Grace five years ago, said the Island evoked images of luxury which paired well with the brand. She was here last week, with The Golf Channel’s Win McMurry, shooting images for the brand’s spring 2013 catalogue at the Fairmont Southampton. The photos will be part of the brand’s new media campaign and likely feature in their catalogue, social media and magazines.Mrs Sunoo said the Island was attractive because it was easily accessible from the United States, because of its exotic character and the fact it has more golf courses per square mile than any place in the world. She said the Birdy & Grace line also had a “lovely relationship” with the Fairmont hotel group.“We started talking with Fairmont about places and opportunities and Bermuda just stuck out for us. We are a luxury brand and golf is a luxury sport in many ways.“Our stuff is of the highest quality and some of the best shops around the world carry it so it was fitting for us to find a place with a certain amount of charm. There’s a mystique about doing something in Bermuda,” she said.Mrs Sunoo noticed there weren’t many stylish clothes in traditional golf shops after she started playing herself, several years ago.She started creating her own outfits and, while visiting a fashion showroom one day, decided to start her own line.Mrs Sunoo funded the first series herself and quickly noticed women golfers approved of the line’s chic style, quality and comfort — and orders flooded in.The recent shoot in Bermuda was the brand’s first outside of the US, Mrs Sunoo told The Royal Gazette. The new lines also have names inspired by the Island, including one with indigo-coloured pieces called Bermuda Blue and another with vibrant pinks, shell and champagne hues called Southampton Blush. She said it was great being able to bring down Ms McMurry to model the outfits, considering her passion for golfing and obvious physical beauty.Over the past two years she said the brand had developed a “wonderful relationship” with The Golf Channel host, stemming from when she agreed to be the brand’s spokeswoman.“When there are opportunities for her covering different PGA events, Win gets outfitted by us. She loves our aesthetics and understands it very well.“She is obviously also a beautiful woman both on the inside and out and I think that is why Birdy & Grace and her work so well together.“She is such a positive person, loves golf obviously and is well liked in the industry. It’s a nice working relationship. For us, she just sort of embodies all the things we envision our Birdy & Grace customer to be. She is very proficient in what she does, but has a very feminine side to her.”Mrs Sunoo said the images shot on the Island might even be used to promote the Fairmont properties “as a wonderful golf destination”.“It’s about the clothes, but also a feeling we are trying to achieve through the pictures,” she explained. The team present for last week’s shoot also included noted fashion photographer Stephen Ciuccoli and make-up artist Reiva Cruze, who has worked with stars from the hit television show ‘True Blood’.

Sharon Sunoo founded the Birdie and Grace golf fashion line five years ago. She noticed there weren't many stylish options for women when it came to golf attire. Mrs Sunoo was recently on Island shooting pictures for the line's 2013 Catalogue.
