PERRY PUCKERINAge: 34Gang affiliation: Police considered him a member of 42.Date of murder: Sunday, January 3, 2010Time: 9.30pmLocation: Hamilton Parish Workman’s Club (Crawl Club), Workmens Lane, Crawl Hill. What happened: Mr Puckerin was shot by an assailant at the entrance to the club at closing time on a particularly cold, wet and windy evening, while patrons were drinking up in the bar. Witnesses heard two or three shots. The assailant entered the grounds of the club from Radnor Estate Road and left the same way.Victim died from: a bullet in the chest, according to his father. Perry Puckerin Sr was told his son was shot at close-range underneath the arm and the bullet travelled through his chest, killing him almost instantly.Other casualties: NoneWeapon: A .40 calibre gun which was also used to murder Kumi Harford a month before and has been linked to a string of fatal and non-fatal shootings.Description of suspect: Police said a person dressed in a hooded sweat top and seen in the vicinity of the club, Radnor Estate Road, My Lord’s Bay and Rocky Lane was of “particular interest” to the murder inquiry team.Possible motive: Mr Puckerin’s parents said he feared for his life in the weeks before he was killed. They blamed the Parkside gang for the murder but mother Maxzine said there was “no sort of reason why we can understand why they took his life”. Police say it’s proved difficult to determine an exact motive other than gang rivalry.Retaliatory attacks: Police have not publicly linked any other shooting to the murder though it’s understood that the person who killed James Lawes in March 2010 may have been hunting for Mr Puckerin’s killer and got the wrong man.Other information: Detectives described a nearby blaze 20 minutes after the shooting as suspicious. The fire was at a carpentry workshop a few streets away from the murder scene in Rocky Lane. Police say it appears to be linked and was consistent with the modus operandi of other shootings.Arrests: Three people were arrested in connection with the murder and all were bailed pending further inquiries.Witness appeal: Detectives want information from anyone in the area between the club and Ducks Puddle, Hamilton Parish, between 8pm and 10.30pm on January 3.
