CASE SEVEN: FREDDY MAYBURYAge: 34Gang affiliation: Police have not revealed if Mr Maybury had any gang links. Friends and family of the victim say he did not.Date of murder: June 14, 2010Time: 12.35amLocation: Outside Woody’s Sports Bar, Malabar Road, Sandys.What happened: Mr Maybury was outside Woody’s and about to go home to see his 13-year-old son when two men approached the bar from the Somerset Road side on foot. They shot Mr Maybury multiple times before fleeing. The victim was rushed to hospital but later pronounced dead. Detectives are still trying to ascertain whether the shooters escaped the scene on a boat or using a vehicle.Victim died from: Multiple gun wounds.Other casualties: NoneWeapon: Two guns were used in the murder. One was a .40 semi-automatic gun also used to kill Kumi Harford, Kenwandee Robinson and Perry Puckerin, as well as for other non-fatal shootings. Most of the targets were alleged members of the 42 gang, though not Mr Maybury, according to police evidence in court. The weapon has not been recovered. Detectives have not released any information on the other firearm.Description of suspects: Two men wearing hooded tops and possibly masks across their faces.Alleged motive: Detectives say they have yet to come to a conclusion about the motive and say Mr Maybury may not have been the intended victim.Retaliatory attacks: Two days after the murder, on June 16, 16-year-old Sadune Raynor and 22-year-old Temiko Wilson were shot on Friswell’s Road in Devonshire. Detective Chief Inspector Nicholas Pedro said it was “difficult to say” if the incident was linked to the murder of Mr Maybury. “The best we can do is surmise that there may be a link,” he said.Arrests: Two men, a 34-year-old Southampton man and a 44-year-old St George’s man, were arrested in connection with the murder and bailed pending further inquiries.Witness appeal: More than ten people were at the scene of the crime but some who could have “potentially significant information” failed to come forward in the early stages of the police inquiry. Det Ch Insp Pedro said his officers still hadn’t spoken to everyone believed to have been there, 16 months on.
