CASE 11: DAVID CLARKEAge: 26Gang affiliation: Police say Mr Clarke was not a gang member and they have found no evidence of any gang affiliation.Date of murder: Sunday, April 17, 2011.Time: 10.20pmLocation: The junctions of North Shore Road and Band Room Lane, Devonshire.What happened: Mr Clarke was riding his white Yamaha motorcycle west on North Shore Road after leaving the Mid-Atlantic Boat Club. Two men on a motorcycle also heading west on North Shore rode up alongside the victim and shot him at close range less than 100 metres from the apartment where he was staying at the time. He was pronounced dead at the scene despite the efforts of an off-duty emergency medical technician to save him. The culprits rode off and turned left onto Mission Lane, heading south.Victim died from: Gunshot wounds to upper body.Other casualties: None.Weapon: A .38 calibre gun, which has yet to be recovered by police.Description of suspects: Two men on a light-coloured motorcycle. The pillion passenger was wearing a pastel shirt or jacket and the rider was dressed all in black. Both wore dark helmets with tinted full face visors.Alleged motive: Police believe Mr Clarke was the intended target of the shooters but have yet to determine why he was killed. They say there is no evidence to suggest the victim was a gang member but they haven’t ruled out those responsible being gang members.Retaliatory attacks: None reported.Arrests: Two men were arrested a couple of weeks after the murder and bailed pending further inquiries.Witness appeal: Detectives want to hear from anyone who spoke to the victim that day and especially anyone who saw him at the Mid Atlantic Boat Club that evening. They are keen to talk to anyone who may have seen two men matching the description of the suspects either before or after the murder. They are asking members of the public to rack their brains about anything they may have seen in the North Shore Road, Devonshire area, including the smaller roads between Barkers Hill roundabout and Black Watch Pass. Police say there are people in the community who know about the suspects and know about the weapon but have yet to speak up.
