Bermuda badminton pairs bow out
Bermuda’s quartet of mixed doubles badminton teams all fell at the first hurdle at the BHS gymnasium on Thursday.Solveigo Caillliere and Mark Haugen were the first to bow out, losing to the Isle of Man's Denise Insley and Christopher Massey, 21-12, 21-16, in their first-round match.The team of Emma Calow and Michael Palmer, and Rowena Cespedes and Danial Hughes also exited in the first round.Calow and Palmer lost 21-15, 21-10, to fourth-ranked Naja-Mattaliit Broberg and Jend Frederik Nielsen of Greenland, while Faroe Islands' Brynhild Djurhuus Carlsson and Flovin Skaalum Mikkelsen beat Cespedes and Hughes 21-19, 21-11 shortly after.Dianne Blais and Rick Dorush were the last local team fall, the duo losing to Elena March of Albert Navarro Gomes of Menorca 14-21 21-17, 21-14.
