Like father, like daughter . . .
Winning in sports is in Tyler Smith’s blood . . . her father is sailing champion Stevie Dickinson who recently won his 16th long distance comet race.Dickinson watched as Tyler overcame a nervous first set to beat Laura Feely in the women’s singles final yesterday and soon after watched as she and Erika Bove added the women’s doubles gold medal to the collection.“I saw the whole match and I thought she had a lot of patience because at times I could see that she was getting frustrated,” said Dickinson. “She just held herself together and I thought she played really well. I’m so proud of her.”It was fantastic the way she played and got it back. I got emotional at times. I’m very proud of Tyler, with the way she handled herself on the court.“You can see that she’s had so much growth and is playing well now. You can imagine if she stays with it, by the time she gets 18 or 19 she will be very strong.”Dickinson has sailed the comet with a number of different crew over the years and maybe said he will talk her into trying her hand at sailing.“Actually this summer she is going to sail with me a bit, we talked about it and she will definitely like to try it,” he revealed.“It will definitely strengthen her legs and I think she will have a lot of fun sailing as well. She’s very competitive and I think that spirit will come out once we get out there sailing together.”
