Squash team claim silver
Bermuda earned the silver medal in the squash team event following a 5-0 whitewash of Shetland Islands today to complete a good week.In the round-robin tournament which decides the medals, Bermuda collected 12 points, with 18 wins and seven losses in the five-match series.They ended with a 4-1 record.The gold medal went to Cayman Islands, who beat Bermuda on Thursday night.Cayman finished on 15 points, ending with a 22-3 record in games played and an unbeaten series record of 5-0.Jersey claimed bronze, finishing with a 302 record, with both losses coming at the hands of the other medallists, and finished with a 15-10 record.“It’s been a tremendous week with great performances from all the Bermuda squad. It’s great to see Laura Robinson and Micah Franklin win bronze in the singles,” said Bermuda Squash Racquets Association (BSRA) director Patrick Foster.“The crowds loved cheering on the doubles pairs to two fourth places and to top it all off we beat Shetland 5-0 this morning to take the team silver medal.“Everyone is exhausted but looking forward to a rare chance to be recognised in a stadium setting for our medal presentations at the National Sports Centre (NSC).”The team medal caps off a memorable week for the local contingent, after Micah Franklin (bronze men’s singles), Laura Robinson (bronze ladies singles) had previously claimed podium honours earlier in the week.Bermuda’s team included Robinson, Franklin, Foster, Susie Lacey, Rachel Barnes, Denise Kyme, Liz Martin, Nick Kyme, Noah Browne and Chris Stout, along with team coach Runa Rena.
