Bob Marley to perform here in January but it's not who you think

Bob Marley will be coming to Bermuda in January to entertain audiences, but he’ll be doing comedy not reggae.Comedy rockstar Bob Marley (his real name) will be part of the upcoming fifth annual Just for Laughs Bermuda comedy show lineup that also includes international comedians Gina Yashere, Sebastian Maniscalco and returning favourite Alonzo Bodden as host.“Our much anticipated special guest this year is Bob Marley,” said Just for Laughs Bermuda organiser Robert Simon. “Mr Marley incidentally holds the Guinness World Record for the longest stand-up show by an individual, clocking in at a whopping 40 consecutive hours. Is it any wonder he is one of the busiest touring comics these days?“We’ve asked Bob to join us every year since we began Just For Laughs Bermuda, but his schedule never permitted.“We’re thrilled that he was keen on doing Bermuda and was able to move around some previous bookings to join us this year.”The host, Mr Bodden, who was ‘A Last Comic Standing’ winner, has frequently entertained audiences as part of Just for Laughs Bermuda.“We survey attendees each year and Alonzo has always been most popular with Bermudians,” said Mr Simon. “People love him so much that this year we’re giving him his own show.”Mr Bodden’s ‘Zo Goes Solo’ will be presented at 8pm at the City Hall Theatre on January 12 with opening act Not the Um Um alum, Chris Broadhurst.Mr Bodden will perform different material for the weekend shows, so Just for Laughs Bermuda is encouraging the public to attend them all.Another crowd pleaser promises to be Gina Yashere. She was born in Nigeria but now lives in Britain. She is known as the surly psychic on ‘The Tonight Show with Jay Leno’.She was the first British person to ever appear on HBO’s ‘Def Comedy Jam’.“Her unique take on being both a cultural insider and outsider never fails to raise the roof,” said Mr Simon.Ms Yashere made her comedy debut at the Edinburgh Festival in 1996. The show sold out almost immediately and, overnight, both audiences and critics were smitten. She was also a stand-out hit on the Capital One Just For Laughs Comedy Tour across Canada just a few weeks ago.“No stranger to the late night talk show circuit, Sebastian Maniscalco’s facial expressions and seething observations on human behaviour have quickly made him one of the most sought-after comedians in the business today,” said Mr Simon.“He was handpicked by award-winning actor and entertainer Vince Vaughn to be one of the four featured comedians in the critically acclaimed Vince Vaughn’s Wild West Comedy Show.He served as the hilarious style correspondent on The Jay Leno Show, where he even received a standing ovation, and his recently released Comedy Central special ‘Sebastian Live’ is the highest rated comedy special on OnDemand.”Alonzo Bodden Solo Show, Zo Goes Solo: Wednesday, January 12, 800pm at City Hall Theatre.
