There are many established Bermudian artists on the new Ride the Wave Volume Two CD, but there are also many new faces. Some of the talented artists featured are still in high school or just starting out in life. Here is a small sampling of some of the 37 artists included.It’s Together, Forever for Bermudian singer Jamel ‘Propa’ Thomas on the Reggae and rap side of the new Ride the Wave Volume Two CD.“I go by the name Propa but my real name is Jamel Thomas,” said Mr Thomas. “I am 23-years-old and I was born in Jacksonville, Florida but raised in New Orleans, Louisiana and Bermuda. I been rapping for the past eight years and singing all my life.”He first got into rapping when the Hot Boyz first CD came out in the late 1990s. He was doing freestyle battles making money off that and after got into song writing and just kept perfecting his craft.“And after a while I started ghostwriting for a few artists (singers and rappers),” said Mr Thomas. “My musical influences are Jay-Z, Nas, Cash Money, Ludacris, Run-DMC, 50 Cent and Eminem. I have opened for Mario, Nina Sky, Mavado, Good Friday at Horseshoe Bay, Hamilton Princess Fashion Show, Peace in The Street (mini tour around Bermuda), Beachfest and regularly at Chewstick.“I put my all in my music and love writing songs that make you think you’re on a journey through my words,” said Mr Thomas. “But also I can make that music for the clubs and streets, so just say I’m diverse.”See him on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8LZsX8_6boYLeah Amaral, 15, will be hanging ten (that’s surfer talk) on the latest Ride the Wave Volume Two album, released today. The Somersfield Academy student is one of the youngest Bermudian artists to be featured on the album.She has been taking singing lessons since she was ten-years-old, but seriously began performing the past year and a half.“My father, Frank Amaral, heard about the Ride the Wave CD,” she said. “He took an interest and had just recorded my song ‘Read My Mind’ with Leroy Francis. I wanted to get it out there. I thought what better way than through Ride the Wave. It is a pop song about a love story kind of thing. It is Taylor Swift inspired. That is my style.”She has performed at school, and has been helped by her music teacher, Frasier Dodd.“That is how I got started and gained my confidence,” she said. “I have always was interested in performing. When I was little I danced a lot and I always wanted to be a performer.“Maybe over the past three years I decided I wanted to be a singer and I started writing my own music. It would be amazing to be able to do it professionally. That would be my dream.”Leah also plays tennis and rows, but her true passion is singing.“Nothing is as important as music,” she said. “My mother sings and that is where I get my voice from. Both my parents Frank and Carolyn Amaral, are very encouraging. I have to be in the mood to write songs. Sometimes I am inspired by real life, and sometimes I am inspired by a certain phrase and start writing.”See her on You Tube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PEUt48ZyERU.Bermudian teenager Bailey Outerbridge leads the way on the pop, rock and alternative album of the new Ride the Wave Volume Two double CD set, with a song called ‘All a Blur’.“Music has been part of my life since my youngest years,” said Miss Outerbridge, 16.At age four, it was evident she could not only sing the entire Little Mermaid score by memory (and on key!) but she could also extemporaneously make up songs about her life in operetta-like vignettes. Once she was cast as a Munchkin in the Wizard of Oz at age five, the performing fire had been lit, and so began her thirst for acting and singing. She currently lives in Princeton, New Jersey, where she sang with the Princeton Girl Choir, studied piano at Westminster Conservatory, performed in various regional and school theatrical productions.At 13-years-old she was invited to sing the solo, ‘The Snowman,’ along with the Princeton Symphony Orchestra. While refining her musicianship and exploring and discovering her own musical style, Miss Outerbridge also worked with jazz musician Keith Lesnick, and performed as a solo artist at some local venues.In March 2010 Miss Outerbridge professionally recorded her first two songs, ‘Circus’ and ‘Drop of Poison’, the former having help from some seasoned musicians (Andy Newmark, Felix Krish and Anthony Krizan). She grew up in York, United Kingdom.“My grandfathers are Freeman ‘King’ Trott and Erskin Zuill, the famed popular calypso and island music artists,” she said.Miss Adderley grew up with music in her life with every aspect of it from instruments to performance and recording.Performing from an early age in primary school, Miss Adderley got the taste for performance and later joined and formed two successful bands in Britain with over 20 original songs between the two bands under her belt. Writing music for Miss Adderley is a great way for her to express herself.“My music changes with my mood whilst still holding my core style,” she said.Miss Adderley has received a lot of good feedback from many people. Her song ‘Dream’ is the track being used on ‘Ride the Wave Two’ which she wrote shortly after getting married. The song is the story of how she met her husband and their journey together. ‘Dream’ is her true love story, and Miss Adderley loves performing this song live. Dream was recorded and arranged at Just Platinum Studios by Johnny Woolridge. Latasha Codrington is on background vocals, TonyB on acoustic guitar.Though at the tender age of three, Francesca Dill’s nursery teachers would say that ‘Francesca simply sung her way through the day’, her singing career officially commenced at age six when she joined Marjorie Pettit’s St John’s Church Youth Choir.Performing her first solo that same year, Francesca had to stand on a chair, while the microphone was held by another member of the choir as she was so tiny.Francesca, 15, a Warwick Academy Student, has been classically trained by both Marjorie Pettit and Granville Oldham, achieving distinction in the majority of her Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music in the UK, so far obtaining grades one to five singing and grade five theory. Currently, she is working on her Grade seven singing.Francesca’s talent for music is not limited to singing, as she writes her own lyrics and composes her own musical melodies. She is self taught on the piano, playing by ear starting Christmas 2009. Francesca is not only inspired by contemporary music but that of the Opera and Musical Theater.Francesca, 15, lives in Bermuda with her mother and brother. She speaks Spanish and English fluently, loves to draw and has always been a bit of a bookworm.“I am grateful to my brother for putting up with my constant caterwauling and to my Mom for always being there for me and being my biggest critic while at the same time my biggest fan,” she said.Francesca sings, ‘You Are My Angel’ on the album, recorded by Johnny Woolridge at Just Platinum Studios and remixed by Paul Muggleton at Big Ocean Studios in Weybridge in the United Kingdom.
