‘Ride the Wave Volume Two’ goes on sale today
A second wave of Bermuda music is about to break on Bermuda’s shores, hoping to bring with it another tide of funds for a local charity.‘Ride the Wave Volume Two’, a double CD featuring 37 tracks of Bermuda Music will be available for sale at Harbour Nights today outside 75 Front Street, the Freisenbruch Meyer Building.The first ‘Ride the Wave’ album helped to raise more than $40,000 for the Coalition for the Protection of Children, a charity that attempts to help children and families in need through projects like school lunches and a food bank.“The 2010 release of Volume One received overwhelming support from Bermuda’s retailers and, at last count, has ‘shipped’ over 3,100 copies,” said Mr Brannon. “Our ambition for Volume Two is to top the 5,000 mark which could very well put it at the ‘top of the charts’ for the sale of Bermuda music (in Bermuda) individual artist or compilation.”Mr Brannon said that Bermuda is ‘besieged’ with certain social and economic problems and it was good to be able to help in some way.“If the community at large is able to offer support for the Island’s lesser privileged children then maybe, just maybe, we can begin to turn the tide for the future or at least have a very beneficial impact on the lives of many,” he said. “For anyone who has seen or will be seeing Lucinda Spurling’s film ‘Poverty in Paradise: The Price We Pay’, sponsored by The Coalition, we believe you will agree that this would be a very worthwhile cause.”Ride the Wave Volume Two will sell for $25 and includes a two CD package with 37 songs organised thematically.The first disc in the set will feature rock, pop, folk and alternative music and the second will include reggae, hip hop, r&b and soca.Every CD purchased a portion of the proceeds will go to benefit Bermuda’s needy children through the auspices of The Coalition.“Music is very much about individual taste, particular preference and setting,” said Mr Brannon. “We believe there is a lot of music for a broad range of listening appreciation with ‘our’ artists ranging from 15-years-old to 64-years-old in age and in style from popular to reggae to folk and alternative.“We had all the tracks mastered in New York by Alan Silverman Ride the Wave, Volumes one and two combined, have a combined 57 tracks for full enjoyment during the summer of 2011.”‘Ride the Wave Volume Two’ will be on sale tomorrow at numerous locations around the island including Gorham’s Ltd, Brown & Co, Gibbons Company Ltd, Leisure Time Limited The, Island Shop, Riihiluoma’s Flying Colours, Lemon Tree Cafe, The Cutting Room Barber Shop, The Music Box, Somerset Pharmacy, Davison’s of Bermuda, Rock Island Coffee, as AS Cooper & Sons Ltd, Portofino Pizza Restaurant, Strands, Paradise Gift Shop, and The Body Shop.“We look forward to adding other points of sale and encourage other retailers to contact us if interested in selling Ride the Wave CD’s,” said Mr Brannon.Michael Freisenbruch & Tony Brannon, who both thought up the original idea for the compilation, would like to thank all the artists who have contributed a track to Ride the Wave Volume Two.Musicians on the CD include old favourites like Mohawk Radio, Secret Po-Po, Uzi-Mon, Joy T. Barnum & The Channel and some newer faces such as Bailey Outerbridge, Janita LaRue, Horrendous Mendez and high-schooler Leah Amaral among many others.
