Windjammer Gallery II's 'Summertime in Bermuda' open today
Windjammer Gallery II’s first summer show, ‘Summertime in Bermuda’, opens to the public today. Owner and professional artist Sheilagh Head could not be more delighted with the enthusiastic response she has received from so many of the gallery’s artists.Professional Bermuda artists who had previously exhibited at Windjammer II were invited to submit a maximum of three pieces each, from which would emerge a juried show. However, Mrs Head quickly discovered that all of the work was of such a high standard that there was virtually no need to eliminate anything. “I am very pleased with the submissions. The work is really very professional, and could be selling in any gallery internationally,” she said. “This is a show featuring Bermuda’s established professional artists, just about every one of whom has had work exhibited overseas in other galleries.”Opened on the ground floor of the Fairmont Hamilton Princess in October, 2009, Windjammer II continues to thrive despite the current economic climate. “I am very pleased with my fellow artists, who have supported me very well, which confirms that there really is a need for a good commercial gallery on the Island,” Mrs Head said. The mixed media exhibition, which continues until the end of this month, will feature work by Diana Amos, Andrea Bolley, Mark Boden, Michael Cacy, Stephen Card, Geralyn Counsell, Rhona Emmerson, Molly Godet, Christopher Grimes, Sheilagh Head, Milton Hill, Emma Ingham, Marlene Jantzen, John Kaufmann, Christopher Marson, Jill Amos Raine, Al Seymour, Nick Silk, Nancy Smythe, and Jackie Stevenson.
