Bermudian reggae parody artist Uzimon is booked to play in some of the biggest music festivals in Europe this summer.
The only problem? He has to raise enough cash to help him get there.
The Royal Gazette caught up with the artist, whose real name is Daniel Frith, to find out a little more about the upcoming tour and his effort to raise $8,000.
Read on to find out why Uzimon calls this upcoming tour his “biggest break to date” and help him put Bermuda on the map through his exposure.
What inspired this fundraising challenge?
My bank account inspired di fact that I must in fact RAISE funds to cross the proverbial pond. When yuh crossin a normal size pond, like Spittle or Aunt Mackie’s backyard pond, all yuh need is some pond shoes an some rum. But for big time ponds like di Atlantic pond, what I am learnin’ is dat yuh need money. And a plane.
How many festivals are you booked at in Europe?
Big ones. Boomtown Fair, Boomtown Fair, Secret Garden Party, Bestival, etc. But I will be infiltration on the UK in all manner of prosperousness. I will even be teaching group fitness classes and showing the yute how to make kites.
How important is this opportunity to you?
Very important. Our biggest break to date. Except for when I was chosen by Richard Branson to be the first human gun in outer space.
What will this mean for your career?
It will mean massively, massively, massive exposure, and not just in the rude meaning on exposure, which I intend to exposure upon England. It also means that big time artists like Jimmy Cliff, Chronixx, Sister Nancy, and much more will get to share the bill with me.
What do you hope the European audiences get from seeing you perform?
Besides pregnant they will witness probably the greatest occurrence in mankind history of all time since Alexander Graham Bell invented the Bell.
Have you performed over there before?
In a past life I was a Viking warrior who raided villages there, so inna sense, yes.
How are you feeling in the lead up to the European tour?
Fulla Confidense. Dense with Confidense. You like that? Lyrics.
You have another $5,500 to raise in 15 days, according to your website. What would you say to encourage people to donate?
Help share UZIMON with the world. Yuh won’t regret it. And…. I know where yuh live. I’m like a reverse Santa Claus.
Uzimon is also having a fundraising performance in Brooklyn, New York next Saturday (June 14) for those who are in the area. Tickets are available at www.ticketfly.com. Anyone looking to donate should visit: www.kickstarter.com and search for ‘Uzimon’.
